How to Create a Feather Low Polygon Logo

How to Create a Feather Low Polygon Logo

Low polygon logo design is simpler than you think. Minimal, modern and sophisticated are few words to describe this logo. Usually the low polygon process is different than what we will do. Others use photos for reference and in that process, you may need to practise a couple of times, but once you’ve done it once or twice, it's easy to get in the swing of! This tutorial is simple, basic and easy and you can use it for any basic shape to design a logo. You may find additional inspiration by searching on Vlemonn.

Let’s get started

Step 1

First, we create a new document (cmd+N or ctrl+N) in Adobe Illustrator with an artboard size of 800 x 600px

Step 2

Now use Rectangle Tool (M) from the tool panel and create a small square. To make a square, while using the rectangle tool press the Shift button on your keyboard.

Step 3

Use the Direct Selection Tool (A) and select the top right vertex on the square and drag and merge it with the top left vertex. This step will convert the square into a triangle.

Step 4

Select the triangle and then Click Right > Transform > Reflect > Vertical > Copy. Another reflected triangle will appear on the screen, select the triangle and place it next to the original triangle as shown below.

Step 5

Now select any triangle and reflect it horizontally repeating the previous step. Create two triangles, and place then above the existing two triangles as shown below.

Then copy and paste the four triangles one above the other two times. Then add two triangles on top and two triangles below. Refer to the images below.

Step 6

Lets just complete the design, for that use the rectangle tool and create a vertical rectangle on the bottom of the triangles.

Then just select one triangle on the right side of the the feather as shown below. Then with the triangle selected, hit delete on the keyboard.

Step 7

We’re now going to generate our color palette.
First select your colors for the feather gradient. Draw squares with fills of the colors you’re going to use for the different parts of the design. I've picked five colors, these colors form a sort of gradient. Now you can use the colors and add them to the Swatch panel by selecting them and clicking on the New Color Group button.

Step 8

Our design and the color palette are ready. Now let’s add color to the feather. Select the bottom triangles and fill them with the darkest tone of color in our color palette. In my palette it is the dark teal color. Then select the left bottom triangle and then go to the Color Guide panel on the right side of the artboard. Then select the immediate next color on the tint scale of color as shown below.

Gradually complete the design by repeating this step with every color. Remember the triangles next to each other should always have different color shade. I simply filled the bottom two triangles with the solid color and then the one in middle left with a light tint and the middle right with a lighter color shade.

Conclusion

Our feather low polygon logo is complete! You can always use a picture of the object you want but I preferred to keep it as minimal as I could. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial.
