Gradient is the new wave design. Designers are using colorful and bright gradients to bring their designs to life. In this tutorial we are going to talk about use of gradient in letter logo designing. We’ll use the letter G as our base and create curves and add gradient to enhance the design. I’ll try to make it easy so that you may understand the basics. You may find additional inspiration by searching on Vlemonn.
Let’s get started!
First, we create a new document (cmd+N or ctrl+N) in Adobe Illustrator with an artboard size of 800 x 600px
Now use Ellipse Tool (L) and hold press Shift to create a small circle in the centre. With the circle selected, go to Object > Path > Offset Path.
An Offset path panel will appear on the screen. Then set your offset to 50 px.
Use the Rectangle Tool (M) and create a rectangle on the top right side of the circle. Then create a circle above it as shown below.
Now select your entire design and select the Shape Builder tool (Shift + M) to create different objects. Select the Shape Builder tool and then click and drag across the selected shapes to create one single object. Create different objects as shown below.
Remember that your paths must be either aligned or overlapping for the Shape Builder tool to work.
Once you achieve the shape as shown below, delete the remaining unwanted objects.
Now create four circles on our Letter G as shown below. Then use the shape builder tool and create drag it along the four circles to create a horizontal S shaped.
After this use the Pen Tool (P) to create four curve lines on the letter R. Don’t worry about them being perfect, let them be flowy and natural. Now use this the shape builder tool again to divide the Letter G in three parts.
We’re now going to generate our color palette.
Draw squares with fills of the colors you’re going to use for the different parts of the design. I've picked two main colors, blue and coral. Add them to the Swatch panel by selecting them and clicking on the New Color Group button.
Our design and the color palette are ready. Now select an object, then select the Gradient Tool (G) and add color to your design. Try to play with colors and have direction of the light and shadow. Try with lighter shades on the top and gradually shift to the darker tones.
Now select horizontal s shaped object and add gradient to it. The go to the opacity panel on the centre top of our artboard and decrease its opacity to 70%.
Our gradient logo is complete! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. If you do follow this tutorial and create your own logo, please post it in the comments so we can see your result. Thankyou fellow designers!
