How to Create a Letter AD Logo

How to Create a Letter AD Logo

In this tutorial we are going to learn how to create a lined minimal letter logo design. We’ll work with the two letters A and D, use different vibrant colors and add a tiny shadow. It’s a very minimal and bold logo design created with the help simple clean shapes. This type of design will look good on letters and symbols as well. Let’s get started

Step 1

First, we create a new document (cmd+N or ctrl+N) in Adobe Illustrator with an artboard size of 800 x 400px

Step 2

Now use Ellipse Tool (L) to create a circle. Press Shift on your keyboard to create a perfect circle as shown below.

Step 3

Use the Swap Fill and Stroke (Shift X) this function converts the black fill into a stroke. Afterwards, use the Direct Selection Tool (A) from the tool panel and select the left vertex of the circle, then hit the scissor button on the top panel. Repeat this process on the right vertex as well.

Now that one circle will be separated into two semicircles. Delete the bottom semicircle.

Step 4

Now use the Pen Tool (P) and create two straight lines where the semi circles end. Start from the semicircle vertex and drag it down. The two lines should be of same length. This will create a basic letter A shape.

Step 5

Increase the stroke size to 15pt from the upper tool panel. To convert the stroke into an object, select the stroke go to Object > Path > Outline Stroke.

Once you have converted the stroke into an object, create the offset paths. With the object selected go to Object > Path > Offset Path. A new offset path panel will appear. Select the distance to be 15px.

Step 6

Create a rectangle on the bottom of the letter as shown below. Now select your entire design and select the Shape Builder tool (Shift + M) to create different objects. Select the Shape Builder tool and then click on the object you want to create.  Create different objects as shown below.

Step 7

Use the pen tool and create a straight horizontal line as shown below. Keep the size as 15 pt., and then convert it into an object by using the outline stroke option from the Object Tool Panel.

Then copy and paste that object above and below the existing one as shown below.

Step 8

Now copy and paste the three lines beside the letter A. With the three lines selected, Click Right > Transform > Rotate > 90 degree. Once rotated, place them to align with Letter A and scale them if needed.

Step 9

Create a circle using the ellipse tool. Repeat the entire process of converting it into a semicircle then into an object and finally three curves. If confused refer to previous steps or the pictures below.

Step 10

Our letters are complete. Let’s add a little shadow. Use the Rectangle Tool (M) from the tool panel and create two small rectangles as shown below.

Select them and decrease the opacity to 35 %. Remember that they are a solid black color.

Step 11

We’re now going to generate our color palette.
Draw squares with fills of the colors you’re going to use for the different parts of the design. I've picked three vibrant colors that look good with each other. To use the colors and add them to the Swatch panel by selecting them and clicking on the New Color Group button.

Step 12

Just add colors to your logo. To make it easier to fill the same color objects. Select an object, then select the select similar objects button on the top right panel of the artboard. This option will select the objects with similar color fills.

Our letter logo is complete! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. If you do follow this tutorial and create your own logo, please post it in the comments so we can see your result. Thankyou fellow designers!
