Logo for The Lotus Gallery was designed to extrude elegance and sophistication. The design is therefore kept very minimal with basic shape and just slight gradient to add some depth to the logo. I looked at lotus images to decide the shape and color scheme. Keeping the font modern and crisp was an intentionally decision to enhance the sophisticated brand name. Let’s get started!
First, we create a new document (cmd+N or ctrl+N) in Adobe Illustrator with an artboard size of 800 x 600px
Now use Ellipse Tool (L) from the tool panel on your left and create a circle while pressing Shift on keyboard. Pressing shift is important to have a perfect round circle. Then just copy and paste the circle next to the existing circle. The two circles must overlap as shown below.
Now select the two overlapping circles and select the Shape Builder tool (Shift + M) to create one single object. Select the drop shaped object in between the circles and create that as an individual object.
Delete the remaining parts of the two circles. You should only have a single drop shape on the artboard as shown below.
Complete your design by selecting the shape and Click Right > Transform > Rotate > 35 degree > Copy. You’ll have a new shape on your artboard, align it on the left side of the existing drop shape. Repeat this process with new object as shown below.
Now simply select the two newly create objects and Click Right > Transform > Reflect > Vertical > Copy. You have two more new objects, align them to the right side of the old object as shown below.
The color palette for me was very easy to select. I just referred to a lotus image to work with and selected three shades of pink. One is light pink almost white, one is lotus pink and one is a darker shade of the pink.
Now you can use the colors and add them to the Swatch panel by selecting them and clicking on the New Color Group button.
Our basic design and the color palette are ready. Now select a drop object, then select the Gradient Tool (G) and add color to your design. Try with lighter pink on the top and gradually shift to the darker pink.
Select the two objects in middle and Click Right > Transform > Arrange > Bring to Front. Repeat this process with single drop object in centre of the artboard as shown below.
Select your entire design and then hit Object > Path > Offset Path. An Offset Path panel will appear on your screen, simply set the distance to 10 px and then click okay. Then with the new offset objects already select fill them with the background color as shown below.
Let’s just add text to our logo to add detail to our deign. Select the Text Tool (T) from the tool panel and type in the brand name. I decided to go with a minimal modern font and make it bold and keep the color black.
Our elegant lotus logo is complete! I hope you have enjoyed this simple and easy minimal tutorial. If you do follow this tutorial and create your own logo, please post it in the comments so we can see your result. Thankyou fellow designers!
