This is super easy and super quick tutorial on logo design. This logo seems like a paper origami swan, that is exactly the look I was going for. We all know that minimal shapes are preferred and worked with, so I have created this simple logo with help of few shapes and a bright color palette. The gradient in the color scheme really works for the monotone and minimal aspect of the logo. You may find additional inspiration by searching on Vlemonn.
Let’s get started!
First, we create a new document (cmd+N or ctrl+N) in Adobe Illustrator with an artboard size of 800 x 600px
Now use Rectangle Tool (M) from the tool panel and create a square. To create a square, you have to press Shift on your keyboard while drag the mouse on the artboard. The square should be small and placed on the right side of the artboard.
Let’s rotate the square. Select the square and Click Right > Transform > Rotate. A new panel window will appear on tour screen. Select the angle to be 45 degree and then hit okay. The square should be rotated by now.
Now just use the rectangle tool again and create a rectangle above the square. The width of the rectangle should be same as the side of the square as shown below.
Select the Direct Selection Tool (A) from the tool panel and select the right two vertex of rectangle and drag them above so that the width of the rectangle aligns with the side of the square. Press Shift while dragging so that the line is straight even when you change the position of the vertex.
Now select the Pen Tool (P) from the tool panel and create a triangle along the rectangle, on its right side. You can use the polygon tool to create a triangle but I wanted the sides to be of different sizes. This triangle will complete your swans’ neck and face area.
You can use the pen tool again to create four more triangles to complete the swan body. All the sides should align with each other. The sizes can differ. I would suggest you go along the image I have below for your reference.
Now to create our color palette, we will use the Edit Colors. Fill the circle on each corner with extreme shades of pink. One is a bright hot pink, the other is a muted pastel pink.
First click on the light color and then on the darker color and have five circles between them selected. Then go to Edit > Edit Colors > Blend Horizontally. Now you can use the colors and add them to the Swatch panel by selecting them and clicking on the New Color Group button.
In this step you simply fill your design with color. I selected each shape and filled it with color from my color palette. To have some gradient and flowing effect, I filled colors in direction. Started with darkest shade on top and gradually cam to the lighter shade with the last shade.
Let’s add a light blue background to the logo. Create a rectangle the size of the artboard with help of the rectangle tool. Fill the rectangle with a pastel blue color. Now select the rectangle and Click Right > Transform > Arrange > Send to Back. This option will send the rectangle behind so that the logo is visible.
This step is not necessary. I prefer to have a slight color in the background to bring out the bright shades of pink.
Our paper swan logo is complete! I hope you have enjoyed this easy tutorial. If you do follow this tutorial and create your own logo, please post it in the comments so we can see your result. Thankyou fellow designers!
