How to Create a Triangle Overlay Logo

How to Create a Triangle Overlay Logo

One of the new trends might be the use of overlaying in a design. Overlay logo showcases the vibrant amalgamation of colors. This look is usually achieved by use of blend tool or transparency. I have worked with shades of blue and vibrant pink to achieve this look. The logo is made with using triangles, which are the only element in the design. Triangles are a symbol of strength and spirituality and along with the vibrant color palette, the logo gives off a very young yet professional vibe. Let’s get started!

Step 1

First, we create a new document (cmd+N or ctrl+N) in Adobe Illustrator with an artboard size of 800 x 600px

Step 2

Now use Polygon Tool from the tool panel on the left side of your artboard. To create a triangle, a polygon tool panel will appear on the screen when you have selected the tool and clicked on the screen once. Set the sides to 3 and the size to 50 px. Then press okay and a perfect equal sided triangle will be created on the artboard.

Step 3

Now simply increase the size of the triangle with the help of Scale Tool (S) for your mouse. Align this triangle to the centre of the artboard.

Step 4

Now copy and paste the circle and decrease its size with the help of Scale Tool (S) and place this one on the right corner vertex of the triangle. Repeat this step for three more times. You must have at least 5 triangles on your artboard. Please refer to image below to understand the placement of the triangles.

Step 5

Select the Direct Selection Tool (A) from the tool panel. Then select one bottom vertex of the smallest triangle and drag to align with the left vertex of the largest triangle.

Use the same tool to move one vertex of the four triangles on your artboard. Please refer to images shown below.

Step 6

Let’s work with our color palette.
Draw squares with fills of the colors you’re going to use for the different parts of the design. I have decided to stick with blue and hot pink color and work with their gradient colors.

Now to use the colors and add them to the Swatch panel by selecting them and clicking on the New Color Group button.

Step 7

Our design and the color palette are ready. All we need to do is fill the objects with the colors as shown below. Fill the top most triangle with the light blue color and shift to gradients as you shift to triangles below. That means that smallest triangle should be filled with a hot pink color.

Then select all the triangles on your artboard and decrease the opacity to 70%. You’ll find the opacity panel on top of the artboard.

Step 8

In this step, you may go ahead and add font and typography of your brand. I have worked with a minimal modern font to keep the typography from getting too loud and distracting. When you have taglines or subtitles, just to make your company name stand out, keep the text bold.

Conclusion

Our very triangle Overlay logo is complete! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. Triangles are very good shape to work with when you want to create a professional looking logo. The color scheme is important to decide the vibe of the brand. If you do follow this tutorial and create your own logo, please post it in the comments so we can see your result.
