In this tutorial we are going to create vintage style logo design in Adobe Illustrator. We’ll apply a range of adjustments to form the layout using fonts, then finish the artwork with texturing to achieve the aged look. A good vintage comprises of three things, different styled fonts, placement and layout along with distressed look. If you are looking for more logo inspiration please explore VLemonn.
Let’s get started
First, we create a new document (cmd+N or ctrl+N) in Adobe Illustrator with an artboard size of 800 x 600px
Now use Type Tool (T) and type Vintage Logo. I used the Nickainley font but you may use any vintage font that suits your design requirements.
Then right click on the text and select the Create Outline option. This option converts text into an object. Now select a corner vertex and rotate your text towards left a little as shown below.
Use the Rounded Rectangle Tool from the tool panel on left and create a rectangle around the text. Then select a corner vertex and drag the mouse inside the rectange to make the edges more rounded.
Now go to Object > Path > Offset Path and an offset path panel will appear. Remember to keep the offset of 10 px and then hit ok.
Complete the design by adding texts and different fonts to enhance the logo. Go to the tools panel and select Ellipse Tool (L) and create a circle by pressing Shift on your keyboard. Align the circle as shown below.
Once the position of the circle is final, select the Type on a Path Tool from the tool panel and type your brands name or company name.
Now just add little things in the design to make it detailed and interesting. I added a dollar symbol in between the texts mainly to fill the space. You may add a vintage font or any other symbol which suits your design.
Select the outer rounded rectangle and use the Swap Fill and Stroke (Shift X) this function converts the black fill into a stroke. Then select the remaining design elements and fill in the color white or any color that you want.
To add distressed look, I downloaded distressed seamless background and opened the file in illustrator. Then select the background and send it back by Right Click > Arrange > Send to Back.
Now select the background and the outer rounded rectangle and then go to Object > Clip Masking > Make (cmd+N).
Make some changes and play with fonts and colors and your logo must be complete! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. If you do follow this tutorial and create your own vintage logo, please post it in the comments so we can see your result. Thankyou fellow designers!
