The new trend might be be the use of overlaying in a design. Overlay logo showcases the vibrant amalgamation of colors. This look is usually achieved by use of blend tool or transparency, but I’ll only use solid color palette to get that aesthetic. The logo is made with using circles, which are the only element in the design. You may find additional inspiration by searching on Vlemonn.
Let’s get started!
First, we create a new document (cmd+N or ctrl+N) in Adobe Illustrator with an artboard size of 800 x 600px
Now use Ellipse Tool (L) and create a circle while pressing shift on the keyboard. Copy and paste this circle on beneath the first circle as shown below.
Make another circle but the size should be smaller than the previous ones. Place this circle between the intersection of the other two circles as shown below.
Copy and paste the circle and decrease its size with the help of Scale Tool (S) and place this one on the centre of the previous one.
Now simply copy and paste the last circle on the top left corner as shown below. You may have noticed that we are working on the eye by now.
Now select the last three circles (do not select the two large circles) and select the Shape Builder tool (Shift + M) to create different objects. Select the Shape Builder tool and then click and drag across the selected shapes to create one single object. Create different objects as shown below.
As we are going to use solid colors for the logo, we need to convert the intersection area into an object. Repeat the previous step, select the shape builder tool and only the large circles. To create different objects just click on the intersection area and you’ll get your objects needed.
Let’s work with our color palette.
You must select contrasting colors and a median color to complete your vibrant color palette. Draw squares with fills of the colors you’re going to use for the different parts of the design.
Now to use the colors and add them to the Swatch panel by selecting them and clicking on the New Color Group button.
Our design and the color palette are ready. All we need to do is fill the objects with the colors as shown below. You may go ahead and add font and typography of your brand.
Our Overlay logo is complete! I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. If you do follow this tutorial and create your own logo, please post it in the comments so we can see your result. Thankyou fellow designers!
