Installation on Ubuntu Linux

In our previous articles, we learn How to download and Install Node JS and Visual Studio Code on Windows 10 and Mac. In this article, we install Node JS and Visual Studio Code on Ubuntu Linux. The steps may differ for other Linux distribution.
For installing Node JS on Ubuntu we have two options. Either we use install default and stable version of Node JS of the distribution or We can install the latest specific version. In the first case, a Node JS installation version may not be latest. In the second method, we will install the specific version of Node JS.
Following are the steps to download and Install Node JS on Ubuntu.

Node JS Installation Steps for Ubuntu

To install Node JS on Ubuntu we have two options. First, Install the Distro Stable version of Node.JS. Second download any specific or latest version.
Following are the steps to Install Node JS default Distro version.

Open Terminal Execute following commands

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nodejs
sudo apt-get install npm

Check the nodejs Version by Executing "node -v" into the terminal.

We are using Ubuntu 18.04. For it the Distro stable version is 8. The latest available version is 10. We will install it. Following are the steps to download and install Node JS specific version.

Execute the following command

sudo apt-get install curl
curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_10.x | sudo -E bash -
sudo apt-get install nodejs

After executing above command Node JS version is 10. 

Note in the above command we use 10.x. If you want to install 6 then you can replace 10 with 6.

Install Visual Studio Code on Ubuntu

To download Visual Studio Code first visit https://code.visualstudio.com

Download the appropriate version based on your Linux. We are using ubuntu so we selected deb file.
Open the Visual Studio Code installer.

Prompt for password enter the password to continue.

You can find the Visual Studio Code Icon in Applications.

We done with the installation of Node JS and Visual Studio Code. Next, we will learn How to create your first Electron JS Project? We will create a Hello vLemonn project.
