Before start working on the actual reporting, let's first discuss What is WTD, MTD, QTD, and YTD?

In reporting, you may encounter scenarios where you need to create reports based on the start and end date. For example, this article is written on the 29-July-2018. 29-July-2018 is Sunday. Let's assume it is the end of the week. As per the requirement, I need to run the report for the current week. It is from 23-July-2018 to 29-July-2018. It's very easy we can select 23-July-2018 as a start date and 29-July-2018 as an end date to run our report. Now let's add a little twist to our requirement. I want to select the date dynamically. It's easy I can use the date function to get the current date and I can minus 6 day's from the current date to get the start date. Yes, we achieved the requirement. Our report is run for 7 Days. Let's change our requirement one more time. I need to run the report for the current week. Today (at the time of writing this article) is the 29-July-2018 and after subtracting 6 days we will get the 23-July-2018 as a start date. What if we run the same report on 30th July 2018? As per the current logic, it will execute the report from 24-July-2018 to 30-July-2018. Which is wrong? Why? If we are running a report on the 30-July-2018 then our week is changed. We need data from 30-July-2018 to 5-August-2018. Practically, if we are running a report on the 30-July-2018 then we don't have data from 31-July-2018 till 5-August-2018. We only need data for 30-July-2018. Similarly, if we ran our report on the 2-August-2018 we need data from 30-July-2018 till 2-August-2018. Such type of reports is known as to the date report.
In the above example, we used the week as an example. Let's first define WTD.
Week to Date report or WTD
Week to Date report or WTD refers to the period beginning the first day of the current week up to the current date. We need to find the start and the end day of the week based on the current date. In the above explanation, we are using Monday as a starting day of the week and Sunday as an end of the week.
Similarly, we can define MTD, QTD, and YTD.
Month to Date report or MTD report
Month to Date report or MTD report period is starting at the beginning of the current month and ending at the current date.
Ex: On 29-July-2018 It is from 1-July-2018 to 29-July-2018

Quarter to Date report or QTD report
Quarter to Date report or QTD report period is starting at the beginning of the current quarter and ending at the current date.
What is Quarter?
The calendar year can be divided into 4 quarters, often abbreviated as Q1 for Quarter one, Q2 for Quarter two, Q3 to Quarter three and Q4 for Quarter four.
The first quarter or Q1 is from 1 January - 31 March (90-91 days based on the leap year)
The second quarter or Q2 is from 1 April - 30 June (91 days)
Third quarter or Q3 is from 1 July - 30 September (92 days)
The last and the fourth quarter or Q4 is from 1 October - 31 December (92 days).
We are writing this article on 29-July-2018 or in quarter three or Q32018. Q3XXXX it is normally used to represent the quarter for a year.
Sometimes we will break quarters based on the financial years. For example, the financial year for taxation in India is from 1 April to 30 March of the next year. For the simplicity, we can use the normal quarter break down.

Year to Date report or YTD report
Year to Date report or YTD report period is starting from the first day of the current calendar year or the fiscal year up to the current date.

This is all about the definitions. Next, we will learn How to create WTD, MTD, QTD and YTD reports?
Will we start with WTD Report? Followed by MTD, QTD and YTD report.
